The Akoko Development Initiative (ADI) has reaffirmed its backing for the creation of Ose State, stressing that Ikare remains the rightful choice for the state capital.
The position was contained in a rejoinder signed by Afolabi Amure, Esq., Olanrewaju Kazeem, Esq., and Pa Lawrence Ibukun Rogbitan, on behalf of the organisation, a coalition of community, cultural, and development associations in Akokoland, including the Akoko Consultative Forum (ACF) and the Akoko Development Group (ADG).
In the statement, ADI dismissed the claims made by Mr. Olatunbosun Oladimeji during a meeting with Owo and Ose leaders on August 9, 2025, accusing him of attempting to distort historical facts and sow discord between the Akoko and Owo people.
The group recalled that since 1995, memoranda submitted to various state creation committees had consistently recommended Ikare as the capital of the proposed state.
It cited several reasons for this position, including Ikare’s accessibility, road networks linking four states, central location, demographic advantage, commercial importance, security structures, and historical role as the administrative headquarters of Akokoland.
According to the rejoinder, all past and present proposals on the creation of Ose State—dating back to submissions by Owena Club in 1995 and the Akoko Development Group in 1996, unanimously endorsed Ikare as the capital.
While criticising Oladimeji’s stance, the group urged Akoko indigenes not to be provoked but to remain committed to unity with their Owo neighbours.
The statement concluded with a call on the National Assembly to approve the bill for the creation of Ose State with Ikare as its capital, stressing that the struggle of over three decades must not be derailed.
