President Bola Tinubu will embark on another round of international engagements designed to boost foreign investments in Nigeria.
According to a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President will depart Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for a two-nation visit to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
In Japan, Tinubu will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled to take place in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
Under the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” TICAD9 will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, improvement of the business climate, and institutional strengthening through private investment and innovation.
It will also address the creation of a resilient and sustainable African society anchored on human security, peace, and stability.
Alongside his participation in the conference plenary sessions, the President is expected to hold bilateral meetings and engage with chief executives of Japanese companies already invested in Nigeria.
Established in 1993 by the Japanese government and jointly organised with the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, TICAD is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition took place in August 2022 in Tunisia. The forum serves as a platform for high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and development partners.
Upon conclusion of his engagements in Japan, Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
While in Brazil, he will hold a bilateral meeting with his host and participate in a business forum involving Brazilian investors. His delegation, which will include senior ministers and government officials, is expected to explore avenues for stronger cooperation and oversee the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding with the Brazilian government.
