Farmers across Kwara State have commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for sustained investment in rural infrastructure, particularly linking farming communities to markets and processing centres through strategic road projects.
The praise came from the Chairman of the State Farmers Support Programme Committee, Mallam Abdullah Ibn Ahmed, whose team works with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to engage farmers and ensure grassroots implementation of agricultural policies.
Ahmed said the Governor’s recent inspection of key rural roads in Asa Local Government Area had strengthened farmers’ confidence in the administration’s agricultural development agenda.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, the ongoing construction of the 17.7km Madi–Peeke Road and the 23.23km Okolowo Express–Sokoto–Tafatafa–Elere–Owode Oja–Baba Kudu–Akopari–Otte Oja Road is a deliberate move to tackle the persistent challenge of inadequate road access in rural areas.
He explained that the Governor’s visit to communities including Peeke, Owode Oja, Baba Kudu and Akopari was recognised by residents as a genuine effort to connect directly with rural producers and strengthen their livelihoods.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Alabi Afees Abolore, restated the government’s resolve to expand rural access through targeted investments.
“These roads are deliberately prioritised to boost rural productivity. The Governor’s directive is clear: bring government closer to the people, and bring farmers closer to opportunities,” he said.
Ahmed reaffirmed the committee’s backing for the government’s rural development strategy and pledged continued collaboration with farming groups and local stakeholders to maximise the benefits of these interventions, describing them as vital to inclusive growth and sustainable development across the state.
