The Niger State House of Assembly has passed the Niger State Diaspora Agency Bill, a landmark piece of legislation aimed at engaging the state’s diaspora community and creating fresh opportunities for economic growth, trade, and cultural collaboration.
The development followed the presentation of a detailed report by the House Standing Committee on Women Affairs, Humanitarian and Disaster Management, chaired by Deputy Speaker Afiniki Eunice Dauda. She stated that the bill would play a pivotal role in fostering joint development projects with Nigerians living abroad.
“The bill is designed to facilitate strategic investments, cultural exchange, trade, and collaborative development initiatives, thereby creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth and harnessing the expertise of our diaspora community,” Dauda noted.
The Assembly also adopted recommendations from the Standing Committee on Health, Nutrition, and Primary Health Care, presented by its Chairman, Umar Nasir, representing Paikoro constituency.
Nasir outlined measures such as improved incentives for medical personnel, automatic employment for health interns, and the integration of alternative energy sources in health facilities as central to enhancing healthcare delivery across the state.
“These steps will ensure that healthcare professionals are motivated, properly equipped, and empowered to provide quality services to the people of Niger State,” Nasir explained.
Speaker Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji praised the committees for their diligence and instructed the Clerk of the House to forward the bills to the Executive for assent, describing the move as a clear demonstration of the Assembly’s resolve to advance responsive governance and socio-economic development.
