Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has said President Bola Tinubu remains dedicated to transforming Osun State through focused investments in education, agriculture and healthcare.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during a town hall meeting in Osogbo on the “Mid-term Achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s Administration” in the South-West.
Represented by Mrs Isola Sola, Head of the Federal Information Centre in Osun, the minister explained that education, healthcare and agriculture formed the central pillars of Tinubu’s campaign commitments, and they had continued to influence the administration’s policies and programmes since he took office.
“Agriculture has been a strategic priority of the administration, designed to guarantee food security and strengthen rural communities. The Federal Government is investing in rural and urban infrastructure such as feeder roads and small bridges. Support for agriculture is also targeted at boosting food production, extending credit facilities to SMEs, and encouraging entrepreneurship while reinforcing local economies,” Idris said.
On healthcare, he noted that the Federal Government, through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), is collaborating with the state government to upgrade six Primary Healthcare Centres to provide round-the-clock services.
“In the past two years, PHC has been scaled up to enhance service delivery, while vulnerable groups, including pensioners and persons with disabilities, have been brought under the state’s health insurance scheme. These steps are being taken to guarantee that Osun residents can access healthcare whenever needed, with a strong focus on expanding coverage,” he explained.
The minister added that Federal Government support had helped Osun secure 500,000 US dollars as the best-performing state in universal health coverage.
He further said all public and federal tertiary institutions in Osun had benefitted from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which aims to ease access to higher education for students.
