Bauchi, Nigeria — Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has declared Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a public holiday for all civil servants in both the public and private sectors across the state to enable full participation in the “50th Golden Jubilee” anniversary of Bauchi State’s creation.
The announcement was contained in a press statement released on Monday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar M. Gidado. The work-free day is intended to allow residents to join in the historic milestone commemorating 50 years since Bauchi State was carved out of the former North-Eastern State on February 3, 1976.
In his message, Governor Mohammed described the Golden Jubilee as “a moment for reflection on our collective journey, celebration of our shared achievements, and recommitment to the unity, peace, and progress that define Bauchi State.”
He urged citizens to use the occasion for earnest prayers for continued peace, prosperity, security, and accelerated development across the state.
As part of the environmental component of the celebrations, the governor directed every resident to plant at least one tree during the jubilee period. The initiative aims to promote reforestation, combat desertification, preserve the ecosystem, and build resilience against climate change impacts in the region.
Governor Mohammed called on the people to mark the anniversary responsibly, maintain law and order, and demonstrate patriotism and collective responsibility. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transparent governance, inclusive economic growth, and people-centered policies that enhance the welfare of all Bauchi indigenes and residents.
Essential service providers—including security agencies, healthcare workers, fire services, and other critical personnel—have been exempted from the holiday and are required to remain on duty to guarantee public safety and uninterrupted service delivery.
To formally commence the commemorations, the governor is scheduled to deliver a statewide broadcast at 7:00 a.m. today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, addressing the people on the significance of the milestone and outlining the vision for the state’s next 50 years.
The declaration underscores the administration’s emphasis on unity, environmental stewardship, and reflective celebration as Bauchi marks half a century of statehood. Residents are encouraged to participate actively while adhering to the call for peaceful and orderly conduct throughout the jubilee activities.
