Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has congratulated AIG Olatunji Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, 2026, the senator described Disu’s elevation as a well-deserved recognition of his professionalism, dedication, and consistent record of service within the Nigeria Police Force.
“I warmly felicitate Mr. Tunji Disu on your appointment as the Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This well-deserved elevation is a testament to your professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to service within the Nigerian Police Force,” Dafinone said.
He highlighted Disu’s distinguished career, noting that his rise through the ranks has been characterized by discipline, courage, and strong leadership qualities that have earned him widespread respect and national confidence.
“Your distinguished journey through the ranks, marked by discipline, courage, and exemplary leadership, has earned you the confidence of the nation. Over the years, you have demonstrated competence, integrity, and a deep understanding of modern policing challenges, qualities that positioned you for this critical responsibility,” the senator added.
Senator Dafinone urged the new acting IGP to bring his extensive experience to bear on Nigeria’s most pressing security threats, particularly the rampant cases of kidnapping for ransom, banditry, and recurring farmer-herder conflicts that continue to claim lives and destabilize communities.
“As you assume this important office, I urge you to deploy your vast experience and expertise toward addressing the pressing insecurity challenges confronting our country. Nigerians look forward to strengthened efforts in tackling kidnapping for ransom, banditry, and the persistent conflicts between farmers and herders, which continue to threaten lives, livelihoods, and national stability,” he stated.
The lawmaker expressed confidence in Disu’s ability to deliver results and assured him of his support in the task of restoring public trust in the police and improving safety nationwide.
“I wish you great success in this new role and assure you of my support as you work to enhance public safety, restore confidence in policing, and advance peace and security across the nation,” Dafinone concluded.
The statement reflects growing calls from political leaders for the incoming police leadership to adopt a more robust, intelligence-led, and community-oriented approach to tackling violent crimes that have plagued many parts of the country, especially in the North-West, North-Central, and parts of the South-East and South-South regions.
Disu was sworn in on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, following the resignation of the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. He has already vowed zero tolerance for corruption, impunity, and unprofessional conduct within the Force, while stressing the importance of public cooperation in achieving lasting security gains.
