Delta State Government Hails OMO Foundation Over Scholarship Initiative for Students

The Delta State Government has commended the OMO Foundation for its outstanding contribution to educational development through the award of scholarships and tuition grants to deserving students across the state.

Speaking at the OMO Foundation Scholarship and Tuition Grant Presentation Ceremony held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Protea Hotel, Warri, the Honourable Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu, who represented Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, described the initiative as a powerful intervention that aligns with the administration’s education policy and the MORE Agenda.

Dr. Ashibuogwu conveyed the warm greetings of Governor Oborevwori and commended the foundation for its remarkable contribution to human capital development.

“Today, we celebrate a powerful intervention in education,” he said. “A loan is repayable; a grant is not. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, while grants are often provided based on need. Our beneficiaries today are privileged to receive both.

These are not just financial aids; they are instruments of opportunity designed to reduce the burden of tuition, remove barriers to education, promote academic excellence, foster leadership growth and open doors to future career opportunities.”

He stressed that educational grants and scholarships play a vital role in ensuring that no deserving student is denied access to quality education due to financial constraints.

According to him, the OMO Foundation’s initiative strongly complements the Delta State Government’s commitment to meaningful development, inclusive opportunities and sustainable progress.

The Commissioner further applauded the founder, Dr. Omo, for demonstrating exemplary leadership through philanthropy, noting that not everyone in public office makes personal commitments toward community development.

“What you are doing complements our efforts as a state and contributes significantly to national development. By investing in education, you are helping to build the future leaders of our nation,” he said, urging the beneficiaries to make wise use of the opportunity and give back to society when they succeed.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN, who was represented by the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Chief Anthony Ofoni, lauded the foundation for “catching them young” and investing in the future of the nation.

He said he was impressed by the vision behind the initiative, describing it as a deliberate effort to prepare young people for leadership and reduce youth restiveness through education.

“These children are the future of tomorrow. From this foundation, we can produce a President, a First Lady, a Governor or a Minister. What may look small today will yield great results tomorrow,” he said, praying that God would continue to strengthen the founder and provide the resources needed to sustain the programme.

Earlier, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Political Affairs and Founder of the OMO Foundation, Dr. Maurice Ojo-Ede, expressed gratitude to God and to Governor Oborevwori for his inclusive and visionary leadership style, which he said continues to inspire initiatives that prioritize education, healthcare, infrastructure and environmental protection.

He said the 2026 Scholarship Award Ceremony, themed “Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders,” was more than a presentation of awards, describing it as a celebration of potential, perseverance and promise.

“Today, we proudly celebrate ten exceptional students whose academic excellence, resilience and determination reflect the true spirit of empowerment. Each beneficiary represents a story of courage, hard work and hope. We believe that talent, when supported, can rise beyond limitations and transform lives,” he said.

Dr. Ojo-Ede emphasized that education remains one of the most powerful tools for change, unlocking opportunities, building confidence and creating lasting impacts in families and communities.

He thanked partners and distinguished guests for their support and reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to nurturing young minds.

The beneficiaries, comprising five students in Basic and Secondary education and five in Undergraduate studies, include Omayumu Brilliant; Eyeolusan Amazing Temituokpe; Ekundehinwa Oluwaseyifunmi; Eyiangho Richie Jeroma; Toritseju Abigail Oritsemoyogbemi; Ojere Oluwabukola Ayeoritsekpeju; Ebiyon Sholaye Emmanuella; Pemu Rita Ajueyitsi; Kari Peculiar Toboke; and Edun Daniel Oritsejemine.

Dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani; Commissioner for Youth, Barr. ThankGod Trakriowei; Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure; the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, represented by Chief Anthony Ofoni; Chairman Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Isaac Agbateyiniro

and Special Adviser to the Minister, Youth Olorogun Voke Oshasha, among other notable personalities.

The ceremony underscored a shared commitment between government and private stakeholders to invest in education as a pathway to sustainable development and a brighter future for Delta State and Nigeria at large.
