The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has fixed Tuesday, March 10, 2026, for the promotion examination and interactive session for senior officers aspiring to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
The high-stakes exercise will hold at the Police Service Commission (PSC) corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, commencing at 8:00 a.m. in the Chairman’s Conference Room on the sixth floor. Invited officers are required to report by 7:00 a.m. for briefing and conveyance to the venue.
A wireless communication circulated by NIGPOL FORSEC Abuja to all commands and departments nationwide lists the 14 Commissioners of Police shortlisted for the promotion interview:
- Christopher Ado Emmanuel
- Joseph Eribo
- Miller Gajere Dantawaye
- Henry Ifeanyi Uche
- Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo
- Mohammed Dahiru
- Dankombo Faling Morris
- Bello Shehu
- Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba
- Ahmed Musa
- Olohundare Moshood
- Jimoh Simeon
- Udofia Akpanudom
- Haruna Oufemi
All candidates currently serve as Commissioners of Police across various commands and formations nationwide.
The directive specifies strict dress and protocol requirements: officers must appear in conventional attire, complete with black jackets, berets, and swagger canes. The examination will assess knowledge in law, local acts, and professional studies.
For security and logistics, the Force has ordered 12 armed personnel from the Mobile Police (MOPOL) unit to provide escort duties. The Transport Department is to make available serviceable vehicles—including two Hilux vans—to convey the officers to and from the venue. These vehicles must be on standby at the Force Headquarters parade ground by 6:00 a.m. on the day of the exercise.
Commands have been instructed to treat the promotion process as a “very important” assignment to guarantee its smooth and successful conduct.
The interviews follow closely on the heels of the PSC’s recent elevation of seven AIGs to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), announced on Friday. In a statement by PSC spokesperson Torty Kalu, the promotions—of Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada—were merit-based, taking into account seniority, service records, and performance in written and oral examinations held at the commission’s Abuja headquarters.
The PSC emphasized that these leadership reinforcements are designed to strengthen the overall command structure and operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
