Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force, effective immediately.
The appointment signals a leadership transition in the Force’s media and communications directorate. Placid takes over from Benjamin Hundeyin, who has served as the spokesperson since his appointment and was the public face of the NPF on major security updates, operations, and policy announcements.
Hundeyin announced the change in a statement issued on Sunday from Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he formally signed off in his capacity as outgoing FPRO.
DCP Placid brings extensive operational, administrative, and international experience to the role. A native of Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, he was born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo.
His academic credentials include:
- B.Sc. in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo
- M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos
- LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws) from the National Open University of Nigeria
Placid was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Police Academy, Kano, in 1996, and was commissioned in August 1998.
He has undertaken numerous professional and international training programs, including:
United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training (POST), with certifications in Police Studies, Military Studies, Gender Awareness, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and Civilian Protection
UNITAR Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding course in Kenya

Placid is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a Commonwealth Human Rights Trainer. He also serves as a trainer for the International Committee of the Red Cross on International Humanitarian Law.
A graduate of Senior Executive Course 47 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, he was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni) on December 13, 2025, shortly before his redeployment to Cross River State Command.
Married with children, Placid enjoys music and sports—including football, basketball, table tennis, and badminton—in his leisure time.
The appointment is expected to bring seasoned communication expertise and a broad institutional perspective to the Force’s public engagement efforts at a critical time for internal security and public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
