In a heartwarming demonstration of Delta State’s commitment to educational excellence, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved financial support for two outstanding young scholars to represent Nigeria and Africa at the Spelling Bee World Cup in China in July 2026.
The two young champions, Chinedu Great Okediachi and Oghenetano Idoghor, have become shining examples of academic excellence, resilience, and determination.
Their inspiring journey began at the state qualifiers held at Bumi School, Warri, where they distinguished themselves among hundreds of contestants through exceptional brilliance and hard work.
Their outstanding performance earned them qualification for the national finals in Port Harcourt, where they competed against some of Nigeria’s brightest young minds, emerging among the best, and secured the prestigious opportunity to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee Championship in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The two students, from the Madonna International School, Asaba, made Delta State and Nigeria proud by their superlative performance at the continental spelling bee competition.
Chinedu Great Okediachi emerged as the 1st Runner-Up in Africa, while Oghenetano Idoghor also delivered an impressive performance, placing among the continent’s top young academic talents.
Their achievements brought honour and recognition to Delta State, further reinforcing the state's reputation as a breeding ground for academic excellence.
Delta Revealed gathered that the Commissioner for Works (Rural) and Public Information, Hon Charles Aniagwu helped in facilitating the approval from Governor after recognizing the significance of their accomplishment and the immense opportunity ahead.
Deeply impressed by their achievements and determined to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder their aspirations, Governor Oborevwori immediately approved support to facilitate their participation in the forthcoming Spelling Bee World Cup in China.
The Governor’s swift intervention has been widely praised as a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to human capital development, youth empowerment, and educational advancement.
It also underscores his belief that academic excellence deserves the same level of recognition and support accorded to achievements in sports, entertainment, and other sectors.
Stakeholders have described the Governor’s approval as timely, visionary, and inspiring, noting that it will allow the students to focus fully on preparations for the global competition while proudly carrying the flags of Delta State and Nigeria on the world stage.
