...As Izeze Hails Progress on Long-Awaited Road Project
The Delta State Government has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's commitment to extending infrastructure to underserved communities as work progresses on the construction of internal roads linking Eyara and Imode communities in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Inspecting the project on Thursday, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, described the road as a long-awaited intervention that aligns with Governor Oborevwori's M.O.R.E. Agenda.
According to him, the road had been the community's top demand for over eight years, dating back to his first campaign for the Delta State House of Assembly.
"This request has been on for at least eight years. The people wanted a road that would connect Eyara directly to Imode without going through the highway," he said.
Izeze explained that the Governor approved the first phase of the project, covering 750 metres, despite budgetary constraints, with plans to extend it to neighbouring communities in future.
"These are agrarian communities that have had little government presence. Governor Oborevwori is determined to change that," he stated.
The Commissioner noted that the project marked a historic milestone for Eyara, the hometown of veteran journalist and former presidential spokesman, Chief Ima Niboro.
Assessing the work, Izeze expressed satisfaction with the contractor's performance, saying he had personally inspected the drainage reinforcement before concrete casting and found it met specifications.
He disclosed that about 70 per cent of the drainage works had been completed and directed supervising engineers to correct minor defects before completion, expressing confidence that the project would be delivered within schedule.
Izeze also warned contractors against using exchange rate fluctuations as grounds for contract reviews, stressing that they had been mobilised early to procure materials.
He said the project reflected Governor Oborevwori's resolve to ensure no community was left behind in Delta's infrastructure development, adding that residents would witness the Governor's commitment to meaningful development.
Addressing residents, Izeze urged them to support the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic reforms had improved revenues available to states and local governments for development projects.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the President-General of Eyara Community, Mr. Gbogbo Tawarien, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving the road project.
He described the construction as a long-awaited intervention that would transform the community and improve the lives of residents.
"We sincerely appreciate His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, for this gift of a new road. This project has fulfilled our long-standing desire for a motorable road. When completed, it will add beauty to our community and ease the suffering of our people by improving access and movement," he said.
Tawarien also commended Comrade Izeze, for facilitating the project, describing him as a worthy son of the community.
"Our appreciation also goes to our son, Hon. Reuben Izeze, who facilitated this project for our community. We assure His Excellency of our total support for his second-term bid," he added.
