THE HEROES OF JUNE 12 DEMAND UNITY: APC CHIEF PROFESSOR YILWATDA RALLIES NIGERIANS BEHIND TINUBU’S REWENEWED HOPE AGENDA

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has issued a comprehensive national address to mark the 2026 Democracy Day, calling on the citizenry to deeply reflect on the foundational significance of the June 12 historic struggle. The party chief urged Nigerians across all geopolitical zones to look past partisan differences and intentionally recommit their energies to the core ideals of national unity, unyielding patriotism, qualitative governance, and sustainable development.

In a formal state paper released from the ruling party’s national headquarters in Abuja, which was signed by his official Spokesman, Abimbola Tooki, Professor Yilwatda categorized June 12 as arguably the single most important and transformative date in the entire architecture of Nigeria's modern democratic evolution. He maintained that the date permanently encapsulates the exceptional courage, strategic resilience, and supreme sacrifices of an entire generation of unnamable patriots who stood firmly against military dictatorship to demand justice, absolute electoral integrity, and the constitutional sovereignty of the Nigerian populace.

According to the APC National Chairman, Democracy Day must never be degraded into just another routine public holiday or a day of mere administrative rest. Instead, he conceptualized the anniversary as a solemn, living reminder of a brutal collective struggle for institutional freedom, representative governance, and the fundamental right of every single Nigerian citizen to actively shape the economic and political destiny of the West African nation through democratic means. He described the annual commemoration as a grand celebration of national hope, societal resilience, and an enduring constitutional belief that the authentic voice of the electorate must always prevail over totalitarian tendencies.

Professor Yilwatda further observed that the annual observance of June 12 provides a healthy structural opportunity for both leadership and the citizenry to run a diagnostic assessment on the nation's ongoing democratic progress. He noted that this reflective period should be actively utilized to renew collective commitments aimed at shielding and strengthening the independent public institutions that sustain constitutional governance. He emphasized that despite its inherent structural complexities, democracy has provided the Federal Republic of Nigeria with the safest, most reliable platform for peaceful political participation, enhanced state accountability, the preservation of fundamental human rights, and the creation of legitimate windows for everyday citizens to contribute meaning to the grand task of nation-building.

"Every single generation of Nigerians carries a historical responsibility to actively defend the democratic space," Professor Yilwatda asserted in his broadcast. "The immense sacrifices made by our foundational democratic heroes should never be forgotten, nor should we ever allow contemporary actions capable of undermining or fracturing our established constitutional order. Regardless of our fluid political affiliations, regional biases, or structural differences, Nigeria's collective democracy must remain infinitely stronger, more resilient, and more sacrosanct than individual ambitions or sectional interests."

In light of this, the academic turned political administrator made a direct appeal to political leaders across the ideological spectrum, civil society organizations, mainstream media houses, religious institutions, vibrant youth demographics, and all relevant state stakeholders. He charged these groups to deliberately promote constructive dialogue, institutional tolerance, a total respect for the rule of law, and peaceful engagement across all levels of the democratic process.

Shifting his focus from historical commentary to contemporary statecraft, Professor Yilwatda made an unapologetic, rigorous defense of the macro-economic and institutional adjustments currently being executed across the federation by the executive branch. He urged Nigerians to maintain their support for the bold, foundational reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, observing that meaningful, long-term national transformation historically demands difficult, painful, but highly necessary policy choices.

He clarified that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu-led administration was fundamentally engineered from its inception to completely reposition Nigeria for sustainable macroeconomic growth, fiscal stability, intensive infrastructure development, improved social welfare indices, expanded foreign direct investment opportunities, and enhanced generational prosperity. While acknowledging that these ongoing structural reforms demand immediate patience and economic sacrifice from households, Yilwatda pointed out that political history has consistently demonstrated that courageous leadership and sound, data-driven policy choices are the only true materials required to lay the foundation for lasting national progress.

The ruling party chairman maintained that the administration's current interventions across critical sectors—including energy, agriculture, tax harmonization, and currency unification—are explicitly intended to strengthen fragile public institutions, stimulate rapid job creation, optimize the domestic investment climate, expand expansion opportunities for small and large scale businesses, and ultimately build a highly competitive, inclusive, and self-sustaining Nigerian economy.

Concluding his extensive address, Professor Yilwatda appealed directly to the emotional and psychological reserves of the population, asking them to remain exceptionally hopeful, resilient, and structurally united behind the shared national aspiration for an advanced state. He cautioned against the active spread of structural division, political violence, weaponized misinformation, and destabilizing actions capable of threatening the country’s fragile democratic equilibrium.

He noted that the ultimate and greatest tribute contemporary Nigerians can pay to the martyred heroes of June 12 is to fiercely preserve the constitutional democracy they bled for, working collaboratively to build a peaceful, prosperous, and indivisible Nigeria for generations yet unborn. The APC Chairman concluded by wishing the nation a memorable celebration, reaffirming his party's commitment to advancing policies that guarantee the long-term progress of the state.

I love sports, technology, entertainment and traveling.... I enjoy and love engaging myself in political activities in the society I live. It is good to be involved in the politics so that inferior people with inferior ideas don't take over the government in decision making and policies. I love reading and spreading general news and information.
