The death toll from the back-to-back earthquakes that struck Venezuela late last month has risen to 5,346, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.
Updating the public through official social media channels, Rodriguez shared government statistics showing that 16,740 people sustained injuries during the seismic disaster. Emergency response agencies have provided relief assistance to 128,324 affected families across the country. To support displaced residents, authorities established 107 temporary shelters that currently house 21,235 people, while an estimated 17,907 individuals remain without permanent housing options.
The structural impact on infrastructure remains severe, with official figures confirming that 856 buildings sustained serious damage, including 190 structures that suffered complete collapse. The dual earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck northern Venezuela on June 24, triggering widespread destruction and a prolonged series of aftershocks across the region.
