The Federal Government has restated its focus on institutional efficiency and staff wellbeing with the commissioning of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja.
This development was made known in a statement by Mr Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations at the ministry.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, announced the reinstatement of essential welfare provisions for staff. He described the initiative as part of a broader strategy to invigorate the ministry’s workforce and boost its internal capacity.
Edun said the strength of the ministry’s personnel was essential to delivering the national economic reform agenda.
“This ministry is the engine room of national transformation, and that engine must be well-fuelled,” he stated.
The CNG buses, according to the minister, were acquired through the Presidential Initiative on CNG. He said they are intended to ease transportation challenges for staff while also supporting the country’s gradual transition to cleaner and more cost-effective energy.
He explained that the initiative reflects the ministry’s commitment to fiscal discipline, operational transparency, and environmental responsibility.
Edun also announced the restoration of monthly welfare support for ministry staff. He said the measure was introduced to reinforce morale and provide stability as the ministry plays a central role in steering Nigeria’s macroeconomic reforms.
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Lydia Jafiya, called on staff to remain diligent, disciplined, and professional during the ongoing period of economic adjustment.
She noted that as the country navigates critical policy reforms, from treasury digitalisation to efforts at market stabilisation, the ministry’s internal cohesion and external credibility will be vital to securing inclusive growth and rebuilding investor confidence.
Jafiya also expressed appreciation for the minister’s direction and commitment to institutional reform.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, restated the initiative’s goal to integrate cleaner transport solutions across government institutions. He added that the programme aims to stimulate local manufacturing and strengthen domestic value chains.
